high CPU usage while getting updates from WSUS RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have:

    WSUS server 3.2.7600.256

    WIndows XP SP2 WUA 7.6.7600.256

    Windows XP SP3 WUA 7.6.7600.256

    Windows 7 SP1 WUA 7.6.7600.256

I had WSUS 3.2.7600.226 and WUA 7.4, computers were on windows XP SP2 and SP3. I got some computers on windows 7 and i had to install KB273608 on WSUS, because windows 7 have WUA 7.5 and WSUS 3.2.7600.226 doesn't work with WUA higher 7.4. Installation was successful. After that WUA on all machines ( XP SP2,3 and Win7) upgraded to 7.6.

After upgrading i have 100% load on one core of CPU (or on the whole CPU if machine have 1 core) while getting updates from WSUS. I get this after running scheduled task or typing manually "wuauclt /detectnow".  This CPU usage is caused by svchost. No any errors are present in WindowsUpdate.log. Last string in log while high load is

"PT +++++++++++  PT: Synchronizing extended update info  +++++++++++",

but some times there is no this string, but i have 100% load on CPU.

All computers always are scanned for viruses, and have all critical updates installed (except of updates released last month).

Renaming SoftwareDistribution and sending resetauthorization doesn't help.
