Question

Hi,
I've been working on various web applications using asp.net with various related technologies for almost 5 years now.
I am looking to get a MCTS certification but confused between Exam 70-536 and 70-562. Can you please elaborate on the differences between both so I can decide which is more suitable for me.
Thanks

Hi there.
Exam 70-536 is the .NET framework fundamentals exam. You MUST pass this exam to be a MCTS in any of the .NET related paths. Check out this page for links to help you. Bascially this exam covers using the .NET framework for htings like:
- Threading
- IO
- Collections
- Performance Counters
and tons of other stuff. It's a very broad exam, so you will need to cover a lot of ground. This is also a good book to get for the exam.
Exam 70-562 covers aspects of working with ASP.NET and .NET framework 3.5. So you will need experience in building solutions that make use of these technologies. A great website which will help is here, it lists pretty much all the objectives for exam 70-562 with links to MSDN documentation.
Cheers.

You already got a nice answer from Jason regarding the 70-536 and 60.562.
But important: The 70-536 is only required for the .Net Framework 3.5 exams.
If you want to take the 4.0 exams, then there is no 70-536 any longer. You can find more details on .Net Frameork 4.0 exams on

Thanks Jason and Konrad.
I guess it would be easier to aim for 70-562 being a first time aspirant as per Jason's reply.
