Windows photo viewer not working, I really want my son's grad pictures RRS feed

  • Question

  • I took some pictures for my son's grad and when I went to look at them my computer tells me "windows photo viewer cannot open this picture because either the photo viewer doesn't support this file format or you don't have the latest updates to photo viewer".  one time it told me the file wasn't there. It's updated, and this is driving me crazy. There are no other options besides paint and it won't open there either. Please help me. On a side note......my mico SD card was formatted right before use. All other pictures on my computer can be viewed, just not the ones from that particular card. My other cards are being jerks too.

  • Try Control-Panel/Administrator Tools/Event Viewer/System/expand the tree.Open each one at a time, locate the event/warning when you tried to open/properties.See what the OS says.

Also,Windows Media Player can open jpg pictures, simply in WMP/select photos, locate the photo,R.click on it/"Open With" open with WMP..

  • Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum.

Based on your description, please try the following methods to troubleshoot:

    1. Run the command sfc /scannow to check if the files are corrupted as an administrator.

    2. Try to use different application to open and check.

    3. When an image file format is not supported by Windows Photo Viewer, you can convert the file to JPEG, TIFF, or PNG which can be viewed in Windows Photo Viewer.

    4. Try out a photo repair software because your photo is most likely corrupt.

Hope the above information will help you.

    Best regards,
