  • hi,
"If the server is a domain controller, you cannot convert it to a retail version."
1 can you enter winver in command prompt on server essentials and look the os version and os version number ?[for example windows server 2019 essentials or windows server 2019 standard ]

2 Have you configured server essential wizard and install ADDS role ?

3 did you download server 2012 r2 essentials from below document ?
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-admin-center

4 after you enter DISM /online /Set-Edition:<edition ID> /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /AcceptEula in command prompt(open as admin),can you enter slmgr /dlv in command prompt(open as admin)and look product key channel? is it oem or retail channel now ?

5 check if your server essentials can connect internet very well and  check the system time is correct .

6 Another method to activate your server 2012r2 essentials. in general, server essentials 2012r2 oem version only can be activated by using oem product key.
where is your oem server 2012 r2 essentials install media ?can you find it in your office ?or can you find it from factory image backup? or can you contact oem vendor and download server essentials 2012r2 oem version?(I am not sure you can
download server essentials 2012r2  oem version directly from your oem verdor website )
