Cannot reinstall client agent RRS feed

  • Question

  • For no apparent reason this DPM server began showing one client as agent unreachable. After other measures failed I deleted the items being backed up and the client server from the backup list and then the computer form the protection group. I also deleted the out of date backups of that server from the inactive protection group. Then I tried to reinstall the agent. The reinstall failed with this message:

Install protection agent on ARCHIVE.pond_rd.wtpsmercer.k12.nj.us failed:

Error 313: The agent operation failed because an error occurred while running the installation program on ARCHIVE.pond_rd.wtpsmercer.k12.nj.us.

Error details: Fatal error during installation (0x80070643)

Recommended action: Review the log files on ARCHIVE.pond_rd.wtpsmercer.k12.nj.us: [windir]\temp\msdpm*.log and take appropriate action. Retry the operation, and if the error persists, restart the computer and then retry the operation again.

The end of the MSDPMACInstall.LOG looks like this:

I guess the uninstall left something perhaps in the registry but not sure where to look.

  • What version of DPM are you running? The log files indicate that the clent being installed is 2.0.5820.0 (2007 RTM) or 2.0.8793 (SP1). Updating the DPM 2007 server to the latest version and then installing the client would be a good place to start.

The latest bits for DPM are below.
