Word 2010 crashes when trying to save on desktop RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

Word 2010 is crashing any time I try to save a document on the desktop (both "save" and "save as") . Saving in other locations/drives  works occasionally (i.e., sometime it crashes, sometimes it doesn't). Has anyone encountered this problem? Here is the event log:

Faulting application name: WINWORD.EXE, version: 14.0.7181.5000, time stamp: 0x58ee71aa

Faulting module name: msoshext.dll, version: 16.0.7927.1020, time stamp: 0x58f60a5c

    Exception code: 0xc0000005

    Fault offset: 0x0008291f

    Faulting process id: 0xe14

    Faulting application start time: 0x01d2cb509adcea08

    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\WINWORD.EXE

    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\VFS\ProgramFilesCommonX86\Microsoft Shared\Office16\msoshext.dll

    Report Id: 168b24f8-3744-11e7-9370-00262d1cc8f1

I deactivated all the add ins; I also rebuilt the "data" registry key as suggested in other threads but with no success.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi d.Bigol,

Are you running Office 2010 and Office 2016 side by side on the same computer?
Have you made any changes to the system or Office before the issue started?

Please try repairing Office 2010 via Control Panel and check if there will be any improvement.

Any updates, please post back at ease.

    Best regards,
    Yuki Sun

  • Hi Yuki

Many thanks for your help. I run the repair function first and then, just in case, I decided for a fresh re-install of office from the original DVD. At the moment the problem seems solved but I am not sure which of the two fixes was responsible for it. Also, I did the same in the past and after a while the problem re appeared so i will update the thread or open another one should the issue come back.
