Restoring a Deleted Reasource without the client installed. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to restore a deleted client computer. I was trying to push to an entire domain. I wanted to clean the DB of computers that didn't get the client installed, as I thought it was using the wrong password and thought they would be re-discovered.

I check the client reports, I know I deleted it.

    User "DOMAIN\administrator" deleted a discovered resource named "DC-WS-023" (2097152318).

But it will not rediscover the computer.

  • Hi,

To re-discover it make sure it is registered in DNS and that the computer name can be resolved by DNS.

  • ERROR: Machine DC-WS-023 is offline or invalid.

ConfigMgr is not able to determine the IP address for that computer, that's why it does not create a dicovery record.

  • You can't restore a single object back to CM12. But if the object is within AD or have the CM12 client is install the object will show up soon...

  • Hi Garth,

Thanks for the response. That's what I thought but it's been 5 days since that happened. I've re-ran a discovery every day (at least once). Anything else I should be doing or am I being impatient?

Edit: Found some more info in ADsisDis.log

    INFO: discovered object with ADsPath = 'LDAP://Sub_Server.DOMAIN.LOCAL/CN=DC-WS-023,OU=Desktops - Windows XP Pro,OU=Desktops,OU=Hardware,OU=Domain Resources,DC=domain,DC=local'

And then a couple rows down (there's some really odd lines in there, 3 blank with Thread 2556 and no source)

    Then:

ERROR: Machine DC-WS-023 is offline or invalid.

  • Thanks Guys. That looks like its the problem. I cleared out a WHOLE bunch of stale DNS records and we have a VPN issue right now. So good to know.
