Windows 7 user cannot automatically login to Sharepoint Office 365 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear Support,

Our client environment consist the following:

-Local Domain (ad.local) on Windows Server 2016

    -SharePoint Online

-AD connect on Local Domain (ad.local)

    -Client PC: Windows 7,Windows 10

    Issue:

We configure group policy to open the SharePoint Online site automatically using Internet Explorer after user login to domain. Policy that applied is add URL for SharePoint Online site into Trusted Zone List and set the login to automatically using current username and password.

Windows 10 users reported no issue. Once they login to domain, Internet Explorer automatically open and they can access the Sharepoint site successfully.

Anyhow, for Windows 7 users they cannot access the site automatically. Internet Explorer was being opened but end up prompting login to login.microsoftonline.com. Have tried to add the sites from AuthForwardServerList from WebClient registry but encounter same issue.

For time being Windows 7 users need to supply their email address and credential and remember.

They keep asking why is that Windows 10 did not encounter the same issue. Is there any issue with Windows 7 and SharePoint Online.

Any ideas or solution for the issue as above?

    Regards,

    Azanne

  • Hi Azanne,

Which version of IE do the clients use in windows 7?

To troubleshoot the issue, check things below:

    1. Clear IE cache.

    2. Reset IE settings. Go to IE->internet options->advanced tab->reset.

    3. And then add the site into trusted site and select “Automatic logon with current username and password” in IE.

    4. When logging into the site in SharePoint online, select “Yes” like the picture below.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Sara Fan,

    Client used IE11.

Have done clear cache for IE.

Client did asked why that Windows 7 user need to supply credential and set the stay signed in option.

Because for Windows 10, client will automatically login to the site without having to supply credential and set stay signed in option.

    Thanks.

    Azanne.

  • Hi Sara Fan,

Clients were aware the difference between Windows 7 and Windows 10.

What they want to know is whether Windows 7 cannot be configured to auto login to SharePoint online site as per Windows 10 did. Does Windows 7 did not support the configuration?

    Regards,

    Azanne
