DPM 2010 does not work with tape library Sun SL48 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all!

Sun ™ SL48 Tape Library, any access device error 917:

    "

Connection to the DPM service has been lost.
Review the application event log for informatiom about a possible service shutdown.
Verify that the following services are not disabled:
                    DPM
                    DPM Replication Agent
                    SQLAgent $ MSDPMV4RCEVAL
                    MSSQL $ MSDPMV4RCEVAL
                    Virtual Disk Service
                    Volume Shadow Copy
    ID: 917

    "

The "monitor" tab, there are two warnings and two critical alerts:

    Critical:

Library drive Hewlett Packard LTO Ultrium-4 drive in Hewlett Packard MSL G3 Series library (x 64-based) is not functioning and library jobs may fail until the drive is repaired.  The drive is not functioning for the following reason:
     (ID 3303)
Hewlett Packard LTO Ultrium Drive-4 drive was detected as not ready. (25015 ID)

    Warning :

Tape Library Hewlett Packard MSL G3 Series library  (x64 based)-2 is not functioning efficiently for the following reason:
The drive information for Tape Library Hewlett Packard MSL G3 Series library  (x64 based)-2 is incorrect and needs to be refreshed. (ID 3302)

The number of drives reported for this library is different from the number of drives detected by DPM. If any drives are out of the library for servicing, ignore this alert; otherwise, remap the drives within the library manually. For information about remapping tape library drives, see the System Center 2012 DPM Operations Guide.

I had a feeling that DPM cannot correctly determine the type of connection and the library.

    Infrastructure:

Physical Server HP 360 G7 and two brocade FC adapter

    Sun ™ SL48 Tape Library with LTO-4 tape drive(FC)

    Two SAN switch (Fabric)

    MS Windows 2008 R2 Standart

p.s. Installing the SCDPM 2012 RC, not helped solve this problem. It worked perfectly the day before for symantec backup exec. Sorry for my English.

  • Hi zutaxe,

there is no multipathing for FC Tape drives at the moment.
So you should check your zoning configuration - I suggest point-to-point, i.e.:

Zone1: 1x FC Port of HBA + 1st Tape drive
    Zone2: 1x different (!!) FC Port of a HBA + 2nd Tape drive
Alternatively you could direct attach the library.
Please do not use Tape FC port of a server HBA for disk access aswell!
    So dedicated ports for tape.

After that check if random mode is enabled within library:
Within DPM you should see the library with tape drives beneath then - if not -> reread.

    hope it helps

    regards

  • If you use one switch san all works well! I guess you need to install additional drivers because in windows Device Manager displays duplicates. Help please configure the multipath or as well.
