Powerpoint and Whiteboard presentation with Lync 2013

Question

Hi Pros !!!
I am facing problems for Powerpoint and Whiteboard presentation through Lync 2013 Client. In internal network, users are able to share their powerpoint and whiteboard presentations but from external network they are not. There is no Office Web Apps in our environment.
Is it must to have Office Web Apps for powerpoint and whiteboard presentation from External Network ? Or there may be some other issue in our network.

Application sharing, PowerPoint sharing and whiteboard functionality are supported with pretty much every client (even the web client): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204672.aspx
These features should work in a properly configured environment regardless of whether the user is internal or external.- Edited by Joseph Palarchio Saturday, March 16, 2013 4:57 PM

The Office Web App server is needed if you're using the PowerPoint presentation feature (internal or external). Are you by chance just using the application sharing feature to share the PowerPoint application?Saturday, March 16, 2013 2:04 PM

Hi Joseph,
We have just upgraded from Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 environment just a month before. I did not add Office Web App to my topology. Internal users are able to make powerpoint presentation from their lync 2013 but externally it is not working.
Can you pls confirm whether this feature will work ( that is external application sharing) if Office Web App Server is added to our scenario.

Hi,
WAC server is a must for Lync server 2013 power point presentation. you need to specify a WAC server FQDN to deploy MCU services in topology. It must have worked before when the users who are homed to Lync 2010 host a conference but it shouldn't have worked with Lync server 2013.
Check the Event viewer every time you try for a presentation sharing. you'll get an error saying WAC discovery URL is not available.

Hi,
The office Web App is required for Lync 2013 Power Point presentation and Whiteboard features. I deployed the Lync server 2013 without Office Web App server in my lab, the two features don't work for me.

Hi all,
I m just anxious why internally Powerpoint and whiteboard sharing is taking place while externally / remotely it is not taking place. If it is related to WAC server then even internally also whiteboard and powerpoint sharing should not work...

Same issue: several new Lync 2013 installations with only a front end server for internal use and many 2013 clients (reproduced on several new installations). OS 2008R2, Lync 2013, SQL 2008R2, clients 2013 only.
When using only 2013 clients, all is functional 100% execept for the whiteboard or Data persistant Shared Object Model stuff, might only be: Clients that have a connection to internet.
I traced for a several hours and found that IIS on the front end is delivering 40x errors on the whiteboard, next i found that a 2010 client is not delivering this issue. I found that the 2013 client (32 bits 100%) is using the _sipinternalTLS record in DNS. I also found that the 2013 client will NOT use the _sipinternaltls for whiteboarding but is looking for a sipExternaltls record.
The problems are solved by using both records for this wondefull 2013 client, this client is made for office365 and that might be the reason for this new featture :).
_sipinternaltls as well as _sipexternaltls pointing to the internal pool using port 5061.
I hope this will help others

It is a nice to have and depends on what you need. 1 frontend can handel whiteboards and powepoint files. The extra server is extra with special features.Wednesday, September 4, 2013 10:36 AM
