Attach a vhd ir vhdx to multiple computers at once RRS feed

  • Hello, i just wanted to know if there is a way to attach a vhd or vhdx (not vms just storage areas) to multiple computers at once . The vhdx/vhd file will be located on a network storage drive.

  • It sounds like you want to use the Connect-VirtualDisk CMDLet. If you need to use this against multiple machines at once to speed up the task you can always use the Invoke-Command.

    However this command shows a limitation, a process is already using the file.

    Invoke-Command -ComputerName Host1,Host2,Host3 {
         Mount-DiskImage \\Server\VHD\VirtualDisk.VHD
    }

    Would it be easier to mount the disk on one machine and then create mapped drives to the shared disk?

  • that would be a problem. I am trying to install a game on that vhd and then play that game to a series of computers. those coumputers will be playing that game at the same time. Now given that this game installs a windows service it would be imposible to start the service through a network location. So mapping a network drive is not an option. Also installing the game on the local drive is not an option either
