Inplace Upgrade from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2012 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • After doing an inplace upgrade from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2012 R2 I can not map a drive from Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 2012, or Windows 2012 R2. I can map from Windows 7 and Windows XP.

    Thanks,

    Eddie

  • Firewall is disabled on the 2012 R2 server. I can map a drive from Windows 7, 2008 R2, and XP but I can NOT map to the same share from Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Server 2012.

  • The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.

I get the same message when I do \\servername

but what's strange is if I run the same command from lower OS versions, Win7, 2008 it works fine.

  • try to restart the server service on both client and server computer.

also you should able to telnet to the server using port 445( ex telnet 192.168.1.5 445)

  • I changed it on the server and it worked.

Do I need to change it on the client too?

Why does changing the SMB2 setting on the server make it work for the windows 8 clients?
