• Question

• Hi

I have
installed DPM 2012, download SP 1 (see the screen dumps for the files, then I extracted
the SP one and installed SP 1, after that is says that is an Evaluation
version? Why is that happen, it was licensed before and I can’t find where I
shall put in the license to get it licensed, we have a volume license agreement
with MS, and I cannot find any other version of DPM 2012 SP 1 there.

• Hi,

You have downloaded the Evaluation version of DPM SP1, you need to get the Full retail version and do an in-place upgrade to remove the EVAL information.

DPM 2012 SP1 is not available as standalone package. This is the same media for upgrade or new installations which requires a PID.
You should download DPM 2012 with SP1 from one of the following sources, MVLS Portal, SA license, Technet subscription, MSDN, etc.

MSDN link - review MSDN license agreement.

From the log file when I tried to upgrade the evaluation to the RTM and it seems to be som problem to overwrite existing fil?

• Have you tried using the installation media to perform a clean install of DPM 2012 SP1 on another system ? If that fails, you have bad media, else, un-install DPM evaluation and re-install clean on the DPM server.

• I am trying that today, I am also are going to replicate this problem on a new installation
with the same sequence of steps and installations.

If we need as a last resort to uninstall DPM completely and reinstall it again I also want
to test that in a test environment.

I am afraid of eventually problem that can pop up and ends that’s up that we are without
any backups at all.

Thanks

• Hi Mike

I have now finished the tests, a new installation with the same media works without any problem.

I have been able to replicate the same error on a complete new installation in a test environment, the steps below is generate this errors:

W2008 R2
Windows update
DPM 2010
Windows update
2010 to 2012 patch (DataProtectionManager2010-KB2615782.exe)
DPM2012
Windows update
DPM2012sp1 evaluation
From what I remember a windows update also after this step.
DPM2012sp1 rtm > Fails

Do you know
any work around for this without doing an uninstallation if DPM 2012? (I just want
to avoid that)

• Hi,

Very interesting, I'll need to see if I can repro the problem, but it seems like you will need to install DPM 2012 Sp1 RTM fresh, then restore DPM 2012 EVAL database as a workaround.

• Hi

Have you been able to reproduce the problem?

If you have that do you think that its coming a fix for it?

Thanks

• Any word on a fix for this problem?

• I have not had the chance to try the repro. As a workaround, backup the EVAL DPMDB, install DPM 2012 Sp1 RTM fresh, then restore DPM 2012 EVAL database.

• Just would like to say that I ran in exactly the same error when trying to "upgrade" an evaluation Version of SC2012SP1 DPM in order to enter license key. The "upgrade" hangs during Microsoft System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 Data Protection Manager with "ID 810; Fatal error during Installation". Could be around These processes according to DpmSetiup.log:

• Hi,

The only workaround is to backup the DPM 2012 Sp1 EVAL DPMDB, un-install DPM 2012 Sp1 EVAL, Re-install DPM 2012 Sp1 RTM fresh, then restore DPM 2012 EVAL database.
