Unable to reinstall NPS on SBS 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • NPS was having problems starting, causing the terminal services gateway to fail.  So I thought I would remove it and re-install it, but when I go to reinstall I get an error and need to reboot.

Here is a clip of the server manager log when the install fails.

  • I have rebooted more times than I can count.  I still cannot do the reinstall.  I get the same error over and over again.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for update.

Please disable WWW Publishing Service on the server and reboot. After that see if you can correctly reinstall NPS role.

    Thanks.

  • I disabled the WWW service and tried the install again.  Same results.  Any other suggestions?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for update.

Do you have Event ID 1617 on this server?

    ======= Event ID 1617 =======

    Network Policy and Access Services

Error: The server needs to be restarted to undo the changes.

    Log Name: Setup

    Source: Microsoft-Windows-ServerManager

    Event ID: 1617

    Level: Error

    Description:

Installation failed. A restart is required.

Roles: Network Policy and Access Services

Error: The server needs to be restarted to undo the changes.

    Here are some suggestions:

Confirm that Windows 2000 Compatibility Access Group had Authenticated Users.

Confirm that Authenticated users had read permission in the security for Built-in Folder in AD users and Computers

Navigate to C:\windows\system32 and check the permission of "IAS" folder and make sure had granted network service account full permission.

    Thanks.

  • Yes I have the 1617 event id.  I also checked all the permissions you suggested and they are matching your suggestions.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks,

    Brian
