App-V Start in VDI environment - mandatory profiles

Question
-
Hi,
I am evaluating App-V (5.0 SP1) in a VDI environment. We are currently using pooled desktops (Citrix) together with mandatory profiles. App-V is set up to use a shared content store.
The main problem is that the overall login process is really slow: When the user logs in, it takes quite some time for the App-V client to populate the start menu (more than 1 minute with only 15 App-V packages). During that time, the start menu is constantly rebuilt/closed (something that I think should be better in SP2).
The same thing happens when first logging in with a local profile. However, the following logins are really fast, because (from what I understand) the necessary data already saved in LOCALAPPDATA.
A minute with a flickering and half-empty start menu is probably too fast to be considered a good user experience. Are there any recommendations on how to improve this?
Thanks!
Michael

hi there
We have also noticed both the slight delay and the flickering of the start menu when using App-V 5.0 sp1 to deliver apps via our VDI solution. Checking the logs we noticed that the publishing of the apps was quick, but then it appeared everything waited for a minute before the end-user got anything.
Yes you are right, the start menu flickering/rebuilding is better with SP2 beta installed as it is refreshes every 5 apps, also you can enable a progress bar showing the end user that something is happening. Znack's website details the settings App-V 5.0 SP2 Beta
I would also be interested in any recommendations on improving this.
cheers

Hello,
You could "populate" your mandatory profile with one publishing refresh, so that it already has access to the most common apps.
