I am evaluating App-V (5.0 SP1) in a VDI environment. We are currently using pooled desktops (Citrix) together with mandatory profiles. App-V is set up to use a shared content store.
The main problem is that the overall login process is really slow: When the user logs in, it takes quite some time for the App-V client to populate the start menu (more than 1 minute with only 15 App-V packages). During that time, the start menu is constantly
rebuilt/closed (something that I think should be better in SP2).
The same thing happens when first logging in with a local profile. However, the following logins are really fast, because (from what I understand) the necessary data already saved in LOCALAPPDATA.
A minute with a flickering and half-empty start menu is probably too fast to be considered a good user experience. Are there any recommendations on how to improve this?
