Answers

  • 1. Use AAM to redirect user from www.xyz.com to xyz.com

    2. Extend exists site www.abc.com as abc.com if you need to open the same site with different url.

    3. Use web.config if you need to open a subsit's default page abc.aspx instead root default page home.aspx.

    <urlMappings enabled="true">
     <add url="~/" mappedUrl="/mysubsite/abc.aspx"/>
    </urlMappings>

    You are correct you can not manage site collection name on Web Application/DNS level.

  • You have to add to Alternative Access Mappings an entry like xyz.com->www.xyz.com.

  • AAM works just on Web Application level. Do you want to show home.aspx from subsite when user opens xyz.com?

    Edit web.config

    <urlMappings enabled="true">
      <add url="~/" mappedUrl="/mysubsite/default.aspx"/>
    </urlMappings>

  • No, Actually i Have a site www.xyz.com which by going to AAM and configuring  i was able to open the site with out giving "www" ex: xyz.com

    now i have a sitecollection in it which is www.xyz.com/abc.aspx which i renamed the url to www.abc.com

    so now i want to open this www.abc.com without "www" as abc.com.

    Could you please help me how to do this.

    Thanks in Advance.

  • You can not do this in easy way. I know just one way how to do this. You have to extend Web Application with url abc.com

  • You do not need to restore site. You have to extend an exists site. Actually it will be the same site with the same content database but with different url and zone.

  • You already have a thread on not including WWW so I have deleted a new thread you have just started on the same subject which is almost identical to your last post here.

  • Could you elaborate this please.  Extend exists site www.abc.com as abc.com if you need to open the same site with different url.

  • You have also asked this question (at the same time) as a new thread. I have deleted that new thread in order to avoid duplicate threads which waste peoples' time.
