Tape becomes recognized as imported after restore job to tape RRS feed

  • Hello everyone,

    Just an issue i've came across very recently. Whenever DPM performs a restore job to a tape, not only that tape becames flagged as forein but it's also mandatory that an detailed inventory is carried out before any operations can be performed on the tape.

    Why does this happen? and if this isn't normal, how can i fix it?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Yes, that is considered normal because DPM does not consider that tape as having a regular recovery point on it like a tape used for normal backup.  That is why it's considered imported and why you need to perform detailed inventory on it.  Usually customer will restore to tape to make it available to a 3rd party or to take it offsite - very rarely would they turn around and try to restore from it - why would you, you can simply restore the original recovery point used to make the tape.
