The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed RRS feed

  • Trying to deploy Windows 7 to a Dell Precision Tower 7910. I get with the error in the attachment. So far I've tried the following;

    Changed Precision T7910 Windows 7 Driver Pack from A04 to A05 - Removed A04 drivers, imported A05 x64 drivers, updated deployment share. No change.

    Changed WinPE 5.0 Driver CAB A07 to WinPE 10.0 Driver CAB A03 - updated deployment share. No change.

    Manually imported MegaRAID SAS 9361-8i Windows x64 driver (LSI Corp. SCSIAdapter MegaSAS2.inf 6.711.06.00) and removed the previous version. No change.

    I don't have this issue with any other Dell hardware.

  • If your machine is restarting unexpectedly during specialization it is probably a driver issue. If anything I would start with storage drivers that are added.

    Many questions such as where do I find logs and what logs are interesting are found in: MDT TechNet Forum - FAQ & Getting Started Guide Please take the time to read it.

  • I am sure I had something similar, a particular Win 7 X64 build wouldn't get past the specialise phase. I eventually added a Hotfix after the inject drivers task.

    Steps: Import the hotfix into a folder in packages.

    Create a new selection profile pointing to the newly imported package

    Add a task Install Updates Offline, and select the profile that has the hotfix package. I added the task in the pre install phase just after, Set Driver Groups and Inject Drivers if you are using the Total Control Method.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/981542 where you will need to request the hotfix.

    Hope this helps,

  • I haven't dealt with this specific model but most Dell systems need the UMDF and KMDF patches installed for some of their drivers to work.

    KMDF - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38423

  • Every time you install Windows 7 on a machine designed for Windows 10, a Microsoft Employee get's a paper cut.

    If you have problems during the Setup/OOBE, then check the panther logs, if you are still having problems, post the logs to a public site like OneDrive and share the link.
