Project Server 2010 unable to install over SharePoint Enterprise 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I installed SharePoint Enterprise 2010 trial version and later tried to install Project Server 2010 but encountered with the below error.

The Project Server 2010 is also trial version. I tried to install this Project Server several times but did not succeeded because of the above error.

Any ideas why Project Server is unable to detect SharePoint Enterprise 2010. I have successfully installed and configured SharePoint Enterprise 2010 trail on my server.

Please help this is bit urgent and I am facing this problem on production server.

    Thanks.

  • Hi All,

I have reached the conclusion and found the solution. The Project Server 2010 only installs over SharePoint Enterprise CAL trial version where as me and my members were trying to install Project Server over SharePoint Server 2010 Internet, Enterprise trial version.

When I learned this, I removed existing SharePoint Server 2010 Internet, Enterprise trial version and installed SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise CAL trial version. After that the Project Server 2010 installed successfully.

So we must make sure whenever we install Project Server 2010 we must have SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise CAL only.

I have also confirmed this on Microsoft Project Server web site:

  • I am puzzled as to why you would want to install all these old and supported trial versions.  Why not install trial versions of SharePoint and Project server 2013 or higher.

However, another issue with your scenario is that windows server 2012 must be at SP2

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee683978%28v=office.14%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396.  The link shows the required software requirements, where the SP2 requirement is specified for Windows Server 2012.

  • Hi Amit,

Thank you very much for the reply. The two URLs that you have provided above states that Project Server 2010 trial needs SharePoint 2010 Enterprise CAL trial. I have installed SharePoint 2010 with Internet, Enterprise trial key, is this not enough or should I re-install SharePoint 2010 with Enterprise CAL trial key?

    Please advice. Thanks.
