Control-Panel -> Folder Options :
"browse in seperate process" ( similar entitled *) and check/uncheck that Option.
If enabled it takes more Ram , but might give a bit stability.
If Explorer is run in an own process and it crashes, it can faster restart itself, for some configuration this increases performance while on others it gets a bit slower - so you must experiment with that.
