Windows server 2003 standard edition sp2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a windows 2003 standard edition SP2 virtual machine on vmware (ESX 3.5). The virtual machine is already using 2 virtual cpu's and I would like to increase that to 4. I know that vmware supports this. Does windows standard edition SP2 supports that.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Yes.

    Server 2003 STD x86 supports up to 4 cpu's (physical cpu's/sockets)

  • Thank you for the reply.

Are there any steps that needs to be taken after I change # of virtual cpu from 2 to 4 on windows 2003 standard edition SP2 from os perpective.

Steps I am going to take is:

    Shutdown windows virtual machine.

Change # of virtual cpu from 2 to 4 in virtual machine

    Power up windows virtual machine.

Make sure by going in windows device management, it has 4 cpu under processors(devmgmt.msc-Processors)

    Thanks for your help

Please note that if the system prompt to reboot the computer, please don’t hesitate.
