Permission to change / delete Desktop items RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our Windows 7 machines are in a domain and we'd like to grant users the permission to delete some icons from their Desktops. Is there a specific permission to allow this?

  • Hi Sandy, by default, unless you've already tied it down, users on Windows 7 can create and delete icons on their Desktops. However, they won't have the rights to delete icons created on the All Users desktop. Are these the ones you want to remove?

  • Our settings are default so it sounds like anything they create can be deleted but anything in All Users cannot. I think you're correct; we've put shortcuts on their Desktop that are created in All Users - I'll bet that's what they want removed. Thanks for the insight!

  • What would a best-practices alternate solution be to grant users rights to modify Users\Public\Public Desktop?  Or in other words, capability to modify pretty much anything on their desktop?
