  • Trying to use this function but the name is not recognised.

    I get the error even if I copy and paste the exact example given at:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerquery-m/html-table

    Let
    Source = Html.Table("<a href=""/test.html"">Test</a>", {{"Link", "a", each [Attributes][href]}})
    in
    Source

    this function only works in Power BI currently.

    I guess, you are trying to use this function in Excel, not in Power BI. In Power BI your query works properly:

    In Excel function Html.Table does not exist (sure about Excel 2016). You may check availability of this function in your application by this query:

    = Record.Field(#shared, "Html.Table")

    If you have any influence with Microsoft, can you get them to update the their documentation so that it indicates what works with what?
