  • HI,

I glad to say that, i have resolved the issue by correcting the settings of "WSUS Administration" and Default websites on IIS. some settings were changed in both default and susadministration websites.

The execute permission for all services wer set to none and i have changed to appropriate for each, helped below link

and also corrected some permission for default website. some events helped me to find the issue Event ID : 12052,12022,12032,12002,12042,12012,13042. also got some idea from windowsupdate.log after starting the console, there were some errors , and just googled it :)

  • If this is a fresh install with no data, I will just uninstall the WSUS, do a cleanup, recheck the prerequisites, then install the WSUS server.

Before doing that.... I would try the "Connect to Server" option in the actions pane.

If that fails, and the console is a LOCAL console on Windows Server 2003, then verify that these services are running:

    • IIS Admin
    • World Wide Web Publishing
    • Update Services

and if the console is a LOCAL console on Windows Server 2008, then I'd close this MMC and go access the console via Server Manager, as it's designed to be done -- and if that fails, then theck the same services on the Win2008 system.

Note: The cited article only applies when the .NET Framework v2.0 is installed after IIS6 on a Windows Server 2003 system; in this scenario, teh Default Web Site is already assigned as an ASP.NET v1.1 resource because that is the only .NET available to use. WSUS installed on port 8530 will always use ASP.NET v2.2, because .NET2 is an installation prerequisites for WSUS.

To prevent that scenario, on Win2003, .NET2.0 should be installed before IIS6, in which case the Default Web Site will be configured to use ASP.NET v2 by default.

Then something broke it. What else has been recently installed to this machine. Unless you can identify what broke it, it will be very difficult for us to tell you how to fix it -- in which case reinstalling will be the easiest and best solution.
