Vista Explorer sort order a1 a11 b1 b11 (is what i'd expect?) RRS feed

  • Question

  • What REGISTRY key do I need to change to get a meaningful sort order

    in Windows Explorer:

When I sort by file name, I have no clue what order Microsoft is using !

    What I would EXPECT  is

    a

    a1

    a11

    b

    b1

    b11

What I get seems to have more to do with the length of the file name regardless of the number or alpha characters IN THE name....

In Windows XP you can change

(And I've only included part of the discussion here...)

    • To configure the policy for the current user, locate, and then click the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Policies\Explorer
    4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value
    5. Type NoStrCmpLogical, and then press ENTER.

    Thank you
