No Microsoft / Windows Update possible due to Stady State? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys,

I'm focusing on a heavy problem, which goes like this:

I set up 4 Workstations with new Windows XP Sp2 CDs.
Afterwards i installed Windows XP SP3.
Then I installed MS Office 2003.
After that, Microsoft Update was done successfully with abou 51 patches.
At least I installed and configured Steady State in order to freez my configuration.

But now it is inpossible to use Microsoft Update, since following error is thrown: "Fehlernummer: 0x800A0046" (German XP Version)

Following up the MS knowledge base, I tryied all 4 Methods mentioned there.  (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;de;883821)

Further more I tried these tools:
    -Wiederherstellung aller Windows Update Funktionen
    -Microsoft AU Client Reset Tool

    found under http://www.mshelper.de/commsols.html

Steady State Disk Protection is now turned off.

I really have no more idea....hopefully someone can help.

looking forward to hear from you!

  • Hi dsamuel007, I'd like to inform you that the error 0x800A0046 refers to   CTL_E_PERMISSIONDENIED

I'd like to confirm which restrictions you have enabled in Windows SteadyState. Does the issue still occur after disabling all restrictions in SteadyState?

I suggest you try the following settings and see the result:

    1. Enable WDP.
    2. Make sure Schedule Software Updates are enabled.
    3. Disable "Hide Drives" option.
    4. You can also try administrator user and see if Windows Update works.

Let's see if the issue still occurs.

Meanwhile, for Windows Update support, you can visit the following link if we narrow down that the issue is not caused by Windows SteadyState:

    Hope this helps!
