missing Microsoft DTV Audio Decoder msmpeg2adec.dll with Desktop Experience enabled

  • Hi,

    I've installed Windows server 2016 standard with desktop experience enabled, but audio codec for AAC is missing:

    C:\Windows\System32\msmpeg2adec.dll doesn't present

    video decoder is ok

    msmpeg2vdec.dll 

    Is there any feature pack to get Microsoft DTV Audio Decoder   working on windows server?

  • Hi,

    I had check my test VM, a clean installed Windows Server 2016(build 14393.2828) with feature Media Foundation installed, there is no msmpeg2adec.dll, however, other files such as msmpeg2vdec.dll are exists.

    Besides, I had found msmpeg2adec.dll relate articles, but it applied to windows client system:

    I am afraid that msmpeg2adec.dll is not included with Windows Server 2016, however, I have not found official article which indicates it.

  • Hi, i still need official confirmation that windows server 2016 doesn't include msmepg2adec.dll and there is no way to install it.

    I have not found official document which exactly indicates it. However, I had re-build a new test system and still the same result as above mentioned.
