Changing read email to unread

Question
-
I use Microsoft Outlook Web Access/Webmail away from my office but once I open an email I cannot work out how to make it unread again to ensure I follow up later in my office base. I have read similar threads which suggest right click but this is not an option for me when I right click, the options are: open link in new tab/window/in incognito, save link as, copy link address and inspect element. No mention of reclassifying email as unread. Any advice? Should add that I am computer illiterate so keep it basic.Wednesday, February 26, 2014 12:11 PM

As we noted above, if you have tick boxes, you have OWA Light and can't reset the "Read status" of the messages. Nor is there a setting you can make on the preview pane to keep messages from being marked as read - you are opening the message to read them, since that's all OWA Light allows.

What version of Exchange are you running? Older versions don't allow marking messages as unread once they are read. And you can bypass this issue by setting OWA so it won't automatically mark the messages as read (in OWA, go to Options, then in settings, mail, in the Reading Pane, set it so it won't mark items as read). However, if you are using the light client, you won't have this option - you need to open the messages to read them, and you won't be able to mark them as unread.

Hi,
According to your description, you use the light version of OWA. And the feature “mark as unread” isn’t supported in the light version:

Clear the option “use the light version of Outlook Web App” when you login OWA:If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks for your help but afraid I am not using a version that has this option available. No security setting are accessible. Thanks anyway.Thursday, February 27, 2014 10:34 AM

Thanks for advice but within options I do not have a Mail setting other than for 'privacy and junk mail' and so cannot access a Reading Pane option. Thank anyway. I think this one has everyone stumped.Thursday, February 27, 2014 10:36 AM

Let's take this one step at a time, so we can get you a working answer. Answer the questions below:
- What version of Exchange are you using?
- In OWA, do you see tick boxes beside all of the messages? (See below)
If so, you are using OWA Light, and as we responded above, it doesn't support unread.Thursday, February 27, 2014 1:36 PM -
Afraid I don't know what version I ma using and cant see any information to indicate what version?
The page does not look like the one above but I do have tick boxes though they appear redundant as if I tick the box I cannot do anything with that email once I right click.
Thanks again for help and apologies for lack of computer literacy..
