My 4 hrs task spans 2 days RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a 4 hrs task which has a lot of predecessors. None of the predecessors are completing on the same day or even the prior day. All the tasks in this project are either in hours or in days.

One of the key tasks starts on Day 1 but ends on Day 2 even though Duration and Work are 4 hrs each. What am I missing?

What you are not seeing is that Microsoft Project calculates both the Finish date AND time for every task in the project.  If a Predecessor task finishes at 3:00 PM and a 4-hour Successor task starts at that time, it will not finish until the next day.  To see both the date and time displayed in the Start and Finish columns, click File > Options.  On the General page of the Project Options dialog, click the Date Format pick list and select the 1/28/09 12:33 PM format and click the OK button.  Hope this helps.
