MIM 2016 Upgrade OS from 2012 R2 Datacenter to 2016 Datacenter RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running MIM 2016 sp1 on Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter.  MIMService, MIM Synchronization Service, MIM Portal all on the same server.  SQL 2014 db is on a remote server.

We would like to upgrade the OS to Server 2016 Datacenter.

I plan on installing the cumulative updates to bring current MIM up to build 4.4.1749.0.  Currently build 4.4.1302.0.

My question, is it recommended to simply perform an inplace upgrade of the OS.  I really don't want to migrate to a new server with OS 2016 if I can avoid it.

Also I have heard a difference of opinion on SharePoint Foundation 2013 SP1 and having to upgrade to 2016 thus requiring a license.  Will SharePoint Foundation 2013 SP1 still work after the OS upgrade.

    Thank you in advance!!

  • ***UPDATE***

Performed a successful inplace migration on the server.

    Applied hotfix to MIMsp1.

    Inplace to server 2016.

Had to reinstall the syncservice after the 2016 upgrade.

Tested in the LAB to work out any issues.

    Flawless implementation into Production.
