Failed to Builed OLAP Database RRS feed

  • Question

  • Try to Build OLAP Database failed With the following error

"Failed to build the OLAP cubes. Error: Failed to create the Olap database: Olap8080. Error: Cannot set StorageEngineMode property of database 'Olap8080' to 'Traditional' because Analysis Services is in Tabular mode."

I install SQL Server 2012 sp1 with the power pivot sharepoint and there wasn't any option to select the analysis mode, and also in the traditional way to install the analysis service there is no option for that.

  • OLAP cube does not supported by Tabular Analysis Server installation. In your error comments are saying that you have installed SSAS in Tabular mode not in Multi-dimensional mode.

SQL- Server 2012 Analysis Services provides three different approaches for creating a business intelligence semantic model: tabular, multidimensional, and Power Pivot. Each are having their own limitation and benefits.

As far as your Issue is concerned you have to use multidimensional model.

Now you can install one named instance for SSAS which will use multidimensional model either on the same machine or in separate machine. Give appropriate permission to the service account (Farm admin)which you are using for cube build then try it will work.

You have to choose multidimensional model in Analysis Service configuration step.

In order to give access to service account go through

  • In SQL server 2012 you have an option to create Analysis server in Tabular or Multi Dimensional mode and it looks like your Analysis Service Instance is in Tabular mode. You can verify the same by navigating to the Information section of Analysis service instance properties.

Please create a new Analysis service instance in Muti-dimensional mode and then build the cube.

  • Thank you for ur reply but as you see in the previous screen shoots that in my sql installation (Ver. SQL 2012 SP1) don't have any options to choose.

I finally find my way using the next links:

  • Hi,

I have installed Analysis Services with Tabular Mode on existing Development server with Project Server 2016.

Now I am unable to build OLAP cubes in Project server.

What is the best approach that I need to follow so that I don't loose any data in Dev server or effect any Databases present in my server.

Should I change the server mode using the file "msmdsrv" or create a new Analysis service instance via SQL installation wizard for Multi dimensional ?

    Regards
