  • Question

  • Hello,

Does Automatic Update service require Windows to be shut down in order for it to perform the update?

Under the scenario below, what will happen?  Will Windows Update install under following scenario?

    1.  The computer is part of a domain

    2.  Domain administrator or local administrator logs into the computer and sets up Automatic Updates to happen everyday at 3:00 am and logs off

    3.  A user with none-administrative rights logs onto this computer and logs off at 5:00 pm.

    4.  No one is logged onto this computer until the next day at 9:00 am.

  • Per the above scenario, as long as the machine is powered on at 3AM, then the updates will be applied. Most likely the computer will reboot after they are installed, since it detects that noone is logged in (if someone is logged in, they will be prompted, and the machine will reboot automatically if no reponse is entered).
