Out side backup solution for DPM backups drive content ( D: drive ) on a SAN + Virtual Machine DPM server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear all,

Im acctually backing up with an DPM2010 server which its a Virtal Machine hosted on a ESX + SAN configuratoin , like also its D: content  drive where all backups get hosted.

My question its , how to duplicate or backup the D: drive of DPM where backup content reside for an outside backups strategy.

Acctually this D: drive its hosted on a HP SAN, and I will like to get it replicated or backup up outside of the SAN in case of a total SAN lost or corruption.

We do not have acctualy any Tape backup solution,  and all the infra its running on vShpare ESX hosts.

    Any help its wellcome.

  • Hi elsaxo,

As far as I understand your running DPM on a virtual server in ESX wich is fine. Regarding your question with the D: drive I need to verify that this is your DPM diskpool and your actual question is how you can duplicate the data  that resides in the DPM diskpool?

If that is your questions here are two different solutions:

First, you could use a secondary DPM server that host's the primary DPM server data. The secondary DPM server could also be used in a Disaster Recovery scenario, please have a look at this URL: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff634186.aspx

Second, you could use a VTL (Virtual Tape Drive) called FireStreamer (http://www.cristalink.com/) that makes it possible for you to store virtual tapes on a iscsi disk that resides on a offsite location.

If this didn't answer your question please clarify
