Windows Update Over Task Sequence not receiving all Updates RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am facing a problem where the two task sequence steps "Install Windows Update (Pre-Application)" and "(Post-Application)" are not installing the most recent Service Stack and Cumulative Updates.

I am staging a Windows 10 Image and I simply get the monthly Cumulative Update released on patch-Tuesday but the following "mid-month" updates are not being installed over the task sequence.

For example on a Windows 10 1809 Image I get the KB4512578 for September but not the following KB4522015 or KB4516077. I also noticed that the ZTIWindowsUpdate script is not receiving the current SSU. If I install the SSU over the task sequence I still do not receive the newest updates. The whole updating procedure is realized without WSUS but directly from the Microsoft Update Catalog to always have the newest updates available.

What I did notice is that the "mid-month" updates are not marked as "security update" in the update catalog. In my opinion this should not cause a problem but might be a reason behind it.
