FSRM - File Screening management - getting email for same file around every hour RRS feed

  • Question

  • Having an issue where we have setup passive filescreening on numerous windows 2008 r2 file servers. We get an email notification for certain file types e.g. mp4, which is the way it should be.

The issue we are having is we are getting notified almost every hour for certain users files.

e.g. We have been notified today at 00.44, 1:44, 02:49, 03:49, 0:49. 05:54 in this example the user has left themselves logged in on a desktop pc and has an mp4 sitting on their dfs created desktop folder on the server. I can see in the File Server Resource Manger, email notification is set to 60 mins by default but this doesn't explain why some files keep alerting

Have done a search and can't find this issue happening, has anyone any ideas?

    Thanks shiniquz

  • Got sorted was an issue client side on staffs laptops with offline files enabled, laptops had synch issues with files locally and on server, causing server to alert every hour. Issue was resolved by resolving alerts on laptop

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your post.

You can check the run limit interval setting for individual file screens by typing:

    filescrn screen list /list-notifications

By default, it is set to 60 minutes, which means that users should get at most 1 e-mail per 60 minutes.  If it is set to 0 minutes, then you will get several e-mails for all events.

Therefore, to avoid the end users getting several email for one action, please consider increasing the thresholds currently.

  • Thanks for the reply Vivian

The user doesn't actually get an alert, its just the administrators to make sure nothing illegal is getting onto the servers. Only certain files are alerting every hour most are not (just the once). For example the mp4 in question isn't open but is alerting every hour as long as that user is logged in. We could increase the time when alerted but doesn't really explain why this is happening for certain files rather than every screened file every hour. Does that make sense? Are you saying that we should be getting an email for each screened file every hour?
