SQL Server cluster does not appear in MAP inventory RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a scenario where the MAP toolkit discovers all our SQL servers except for our main production cluster. Accessing the SQL cluster server via WMI (WBEMTEST) works. The discovery is using Active Directory. The MAP log has the following info:

    <2012-07-23 12:56:17.24 WorkerThread1354@DeviceInventoryWorkItem,I> InventoryWorkCallback(Device(GUID={fdb5817b-932d-4595-940e-3f5d2f55ed6f},DnsHostName='AAAAA9999')) - Device inventory completed. Elapsed time = 00:00:13.508. Collection results:Wmi = FailedDueToHostNotFound/0/9/11, Registry = -/0/0/15.

    <2012-07-23 12:56:17.24 WorkerThread1354@InventoryWorkItem,I> WorkCallback() - Completed InventoryWorkItem with description='DeviceInventoryWorkItem(GUID={fdb5817b-932d-4595-940e-3f5d2f55ed6f},DnsHostName='MLCN1033')'. Elapsed time: 00:00:13.510

    MAP is running with a domain admin account and all required firewall ports appear to be open. Any suggestions?

  • When testing with WBEMTEST, are you using the host name for the cluster, one of the nodes, or an IP address? The "FailedDueToHostNotFound" error is usally related to a failed DNS lookup. Are you able to get a reply when you use this from a command line: PING MLCN1033 -a
