Print Server Management Pack for 2008 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are looking for the Print Management Pack for Windows Server 2008 R2. Only for Windows Server 2008 the management pack is able to download. Any idea when this management pack will come at Pinpoint, we really need it. There are some workarounds, but they don't offer the whole monitoring. We already tested the workaround from Kevin, Hollman, and that doesn't seem to work for us.

  • Hi, you are not the only one waiting for it. It is still not out. I have heard no expected date yet.

I think you have already touched the first two links here, but I will add them anyway for others reference:

  • Yes, I already seen these articles, but they don't offer the complete monitoring we would like to have. Maybe a Microsoft person can clarify this for us?

  • I can clarify, but it is not the news you would enjoy.  There is no management pack for the Print Server role for server 2008 R2.  We are workinng to make sure that this is not repeated in the future releases of the operating system.  Gaps in the portfolio like this come from time to time, and we look to the community and partners to provide solutions in these cases.

  • In the meantime I guess we are down to taking mps addendums like Kevin and Steve made and extend on that to make it even more complete. Especially if you have special whishes it might still be that the mp that MS will provide does not cover every single monitor you would want. Its unfortunate that some mps run behind (a lot) while other products groups already have most of the MP ready when still in beta of their product. ANyway, would suggest to first take what is there and possibly adding stuff to it to get what you want to have. And of course any additions would be very welcomed in the community as well.

  • It now works. But I have one question how can I monitor offline printers without using SNMP. Can I just use the Performance Counter Not Ready status? I don't see anything in the monitors to monitor offline printers. I would like to have an alert when a printer goes offline a.s.a.p within a minute. Only the MP from Kevin works on 2008 R2 that one from Steve not. Nothing is getting discoverd on the MP of Steve on 2008 R2.

  • Hi I will mark the thread as answered. As far as I know there still is no 2008R2 print management pack out. Just those which I posted already and a workaround version by Robert at http://msopsmgr.blogspot.com/2010/10/workaround-management-pack-for.html . Thanks.
