Custom SharePoint columns when using document on OneDrive library RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone.

I already posted to Word IT forum

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/6bb1c320-23bf-441a-8d72-62384b6902b8/custom-sharepoint-columns-when-using-document-on-onedrive-library?forum=word

But I think it's worthwhile to try some luck in this respected community as well.

The normal behavior of Word 2016 that I expect is that when I save or open a document in SharePoint library, I can see all custom columns of the library as custom properties in the document. This behavior works perfectly for all libraries I've tried but particular OneDrive "/documents". In other words, when I open document from this special library, I can see no custom property in the document and I can only see them in the library web page.

Is it any known/expected/designed 'feature' of Word 2016 and SharePoint 2016?

I tried with SharePoint 2016 on premise and SharePoint Online with the same result.

    To reproduce this issue:

    1. create any text column in OneDrive (/documents) library. For example, in https://<tenantname>-my.sharepoint.com/personal/<username>/documents

    2. save docx file in the library

    3. open the file in Word 2016

    4. check Info backstage in Word 2016

In normal library, you will be able to see custom column:

But if I save to this unique library, it doesn't work for me.

I checked this behavior with SharePoint 2013 and it works fine. So the issue only shows up when I use SharePoint 2016.

  • Thank you for the information Lisa. Guys from Word IT forum found solution for this. It's not documented for SharePoint 2016 but it is documented for SharePoint Online:

It is a place for customers provide feedback about SharePoint products. What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.
