Is AD site resolution dependent on DNS resolution? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had an IP address show up in an SA today and, though the IP falls within a defined AD subnet and site, the site did not appear in the UI.

Perhaps only coincidentally, the reverse DNS lookup for the IP did not resolve either.

  • Hello,

As far as I know, the AD site is not dependent on DNS resolution.

Although the IP address falls within the defined AS subnet and site, it's not possible to resolve it to the corresponding AD site.

    Best regards,

    Andy Liu

  • Do you have any other ideas as to why I'd see "Sites: None" in the UI for an IP  (that falls within an AD subnet)?

  • If we fail to resolve the IP address to an AD machine, we won't be able to resolve a site.
