Vista 64 Ultimate - Media Player won't play audio files. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've recently run into a problem where Media Player won't play my audio files either wma or mp3. All I get is a pop/crack when the file is opened and then nothing. The progress bar and visualizations are moving as though the file is playing but no sound.  Sounds in Vista and games are working. Videos play with audio. I've tried regsvr32 wmp.dll and sfc /scannow.

I created another user and Media player plays the same files without issues. Any suggestions?

Nevermind. I'd changed my Default Format for my sound card from 24bit 48kHz to 24bit 192kHz. I changed it back and Voila!
Sound Card is Realtek onboard HD Audio, ALC888S. BTW, Nero and Quicktime played the files fine. I guess it's just a Media Player issue.
