Protection group for virtual servers RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

Some help on configuring a protection group would be appreciated.

I have a hyper -v host running two virtual machines. One is an exchange server with a single mailbox database. The other is running a propietary progam that uses sql databases.

Should I protect the two virtual machines in one protection group, and have a seperate protection group for the exchange data and the sql data on the other server.?

Or should I forget about the hyper-v; and just have a protection group for each indivdual server as though they were physical boxes?

    Thanks

    Richard

  • Your mileage may vary.  For my own experiences, servers with "special" data (i.e. sql, exchange, sharepoint, pass-through disks, clustered) are handled individually, while everything else is set up for VM protection.  I can't wait to implement CSV2...the serialization is murder.
