I am not sure what you have installed but modern Windows will do better with 8GB or more RAM installed

Windows 8 and up will use more memory if available to speed up program load times

Are you dual booting or running Windows 10 as a VM?

  • 10 works best with at least 4GB of memory and a dual core processor, it will run on an old celeron but its so slow

look at my rig, which is a mediocre gaming box and it can run any OS out there

There is nothing that we advise against more or more strongly & emphatically than this!

One should never use betas as a main OS.

There are a number of reasons why NOT to do this.  For starters, a couple are, may not be able to go from beta > GA and your "main OS" has, absolutely, no support, @ all, zero, none, nada, zilch.

I agree, which is why I installed it first in a virtual machine

I am now dual booting and so far so good

No, new Builds do not come everyday.  The frequency @ which they are received can be selected to be Fast or Slow.  Slow is the regular frequency of major Builds that most of the public see;  Fast is, also, the interim Builds that are generally of more interest to IT Pros, like myself & other more-than-average tech-savvy individuals, particularly avid & keenly interested enthusiasts.  Neither are "everyday".

We are hearing of Win10 running very nicely on older, not very robust gear.  Personally, I have 2 Windows 10s... an x86 single processor w/ 2Gb RAM  and an x64 2 processor w/ 4Gb RAM; both are fast.

A box will usually be faster if more RAM is thrown @ it.  Need & want are oft 2 different things.  Most machines these days have 4 or more... especially since most are, now, x64 and that will use any amount of RAM it sees unlike, x86.

    Drew

  • I have used x64 since XP x64 was released back around 2005 or so

I have been also developing for x64 since then too, back then I had a D915PGN box with a Pentium 820 overclocked to 3.4 GHz

I have noticed DDR3 4GB sticks are now the bottom of the market with 8GB sticks now competing hard. 16GB sticks are likely to surface soon.
