Project Online - Resource Departments ECF settings RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

In Project Online does anyone know if there are any unintended consequences or undesirable side effects of ticking "Allow multiple values to be selected from lookup table" on the Resource Departments ECF?". Seem to recall this caused various problems in 2010.

Thanks for any advice / reassurance

Answers

  • Yes, but cannot remember the specifics other than double reporting; best practise is to keep department ECFs single value only.

  • I can amplify Ben's comments by adding: The Department field drives a filtering feature in the system. You can use it as a simple reporting field, but when you create hierarchies or multiple values it can get quite messy to manage the filtering results. If you think you want to use Department Filtering feature, you should have a very good plan before you implement it. If you simply want to do reporting against it, then use it like any custom field.
