    Hi ms25456,

    Thank you for the post.

Before going further, please help confirm the following points:

    1.    When did the issue begin to occur?

    2.    Have any changes been made on the computer recently, such as an installation or upgrade?

    3.    What’s the brand and model of your sound card?

    4.    Are you using speakers or an earphone?

Currently, please check the sound settings in Control Panel/Sound.

Then let’s try the following method to reinstall the sound card:

    1.    Click Start, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.

    2.    Double-click Sound, video and game controllers.

    3.    Right-click your sound card and click Uninstall.

    4.    Restart the computer and the sound card will be reinstalled automatically.

If the issue persists, please send me the System Information for further research:

    1.  Press Start, type in msinfo32 in the Start Search bar and then press Enter.

    2.  Choose Save from the File menu and save it as an NFO file.

    3.  Find the file, right-click on this file, click "Send To", and click "Compressed (zipped) Folder".

    4.  Send the compressed file to us.

I have created a FTP site and you can upload the files to me from the following the following site:

    https://sftus.one.microsoft.com/ChooseTransfer.aspx?key=e3fe3d45-7a03-4299-9e10-0ba528e4f57c

    Password: roJDpjWD4]lr

To get the issue resolved in a timely manner, you can also contact your computer manufacturer for more information.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards,

    Tim Quan

  • Well one suggestion, go to Control Panel and then Sounds and open it up and see if it got accidentally or magically put on Mute.  I'm thinking you have Vista.  So that could explain alot.  It's a mess.  Did this help?

  • Alas the time came to reformat my wife's computer, too many things did not work as they were suppose to, so I gathered together all of the system discs and backed it up, then I popped in a new harddrive to give her more space.  Everything went well until she came home and tried to listen to an email audio note.  No sound.  I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this problem.  I have reinstalled the card many times and have no where else to go.  Here is the information from msinfo32 on the sound device.

    Name Conexant AC-Link Audio
    Manufacturer Conexant
    Status OK
    PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C5&SUBSYS_00641025&REV_03\3&61AAA01&0&FD
    I/O Port 0x00001C00-0x00001CFF
    I/O Port 0x000018C0-0x000018FF
    Memory Address 0xE0100C00-0xE0100DFF
    Memory Address 0xE0100800-0xE01008FF

I have used theincluded system disc for my wife's travelMate2300, been to both the Acer site and the conxant site to get updates.  I have installed them.

Everytime it is the same thing.  When I click on the properties it says "enabled but not started"
Where do you start it?  I have formated and installed hundreds of computers as a high school computer tech and this is the first time I have ever had adio problems.  Usually it happens automatically.

    Here is the system summary:

    System Manufacturer Acer
