Correct way to backup a Hyper-V machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey all,

I'm testing DPM 2012 SP1 for the backup of our Hyper-V machines.

I created a backup for a test machine (Child Partition Snapshot), but DPM is only saving the vhds from the machine. With this a fast recovery is not possible.

Is there a way in DPM to save the whole virtual machine? If yes I could do a fast recover to another Hyper-V host.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

During recovery - do not expand the VM so you can see the .vhd's, instead select the VM itself to recover.  That will allow you to recover the whole VM including configuration to original hyper-V host or another hyper-V host that has a DPM agent installed.

You will see recovery options where to restore back to Hyper-V host.
