  • Once you have added your AD properties to the profile page and done a re-crawl of the profiles, the new properties will appear as crawled properties which you can map to managed properties.

These managed properties you can use in the filter categories in the refinement webpart. That said, this is out of scope for the FAST forum, as people search uses the out of box sharepoint search, not the FAST engine.

  • One, map the crawled properties for these columns(?) to managed properties of equal names. Turn on refinement for the managed properties, re-crawl your content, add the managed metadata as columns in the refinement webpart.

Check out http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee819873.aspx for an overview an explanation on how to add new refiners.

  • Hi Mikael,

Thanks for replying. you are right but the problem is i could not find any equivalent  managed properties or crawled properties for Floors , Location and Projectors that is the issue i have.

Not sure how one can create crawled properties if not there. I am newbie to search area.

  • Where does your fields "Floors", "Location", "Projectors" come from?

  • If you have such properties in your content (e.g. a custom SharePoint list), they will appear as crawled properties in the crawled content. This article shows how to figure out which crawled properties that are picked up by the crawler: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/how-to-identify-crawled-properties-and-their-values.aspx.

There are also ways to create your own properties. You can use custom code, ref. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff795801.aspx.

You can also extract properties from text, although I do not believe that will solve your particular issue. This is described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff795797.aspx. In this article you will also find more info on how to set up the refiner and map it in the web part.
