Telnet to Port 25 to Check TLS RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've setup TLS for incoming emails through my Red Condor mail gateway as well as via a SMTP Connector on my Exchange 2003 server. I've tested TLS both directions with two outside agencies, it all works great.

My question, if I Telnet to my public IP on 25, or the agencies, and issue a EHLO Test I don't see STARTTLS listed. Why? I know the STARTTLS verb works, as I can see in my logs and email headers that emails are being encrypted between us.

I was hoping to determine if another agency I want to initiate TLS with supports it. So I Telnet to their mail gateway and got the same result.
