  • I'm afraid that SharePoint 2010 cannot be installed on Windows Server 2012 at this time. Microsoft has published a KB article confirming that situation: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2724471.

That could change down the road, but it will likely require an update to either SharePoint or Windows Server to introduce the compatibility. I have seen a post where someone describes his process for actually getting it to work, but I would say that this is definitely not a supported configuration: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7899.install-sharepoint-2010-on-windows-server-8-beta-en-us.aspx

  • I used the ServerManagerCmd.exe workaround and it worked like a champ on Windows Server 2012. For MS to say that SP 2010 Server is NOT supported on Windwos Server 2012 is bs. They will have to come up with a solution for it to be supported because a significant amount of MS customers will still run SP 2010 Server on Windows Server 2012 and not jump to SP 2013 when it is RTM. As for the workaround, once you put the ServerManagerCmd.exe in the system32 folder, the prereqs load and SP 2010 Server installs without error. Be sure that you have the SP 2010 Server SP1 package - this is the minimum you should be using. After the binaries are loaded, the rest is configuration to SQL Server, we are using SQL Server 2012 to take advantage of the new BI features. Reporting Services is also updated where it is a CA application and is really sweet now it is officially part of the farm instead of an add-in.

Feel free to ping me with any questions regarding installation/configuration.
