Run windows update against specific wsus server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to run windows update from a specific wsus server using cmdline or powershell? Eventually I am trying to do something with powershell but without using the WSUS API for versions 4 and above.
    Thanks

  • Hello,

Based on my knowledge, WSUS is not working this way.

No matter how we configure the client, settings applied to registry key to point to your WSUS server.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

With powershell commands you can change the key easily, but I don't think it is a good idea to the change WSUS client from one server to another frequently.

    Hope this helps.

In addition, changing the registry value would also require restarting WUAUServ.

Perhaps you could elaborate on the actual problem you're trying to solve and we can suggest appropriate and viable solutions for that problem?
