Enable Windows Firewall - Windows 7

    Question

  • I am running into a problem, we have a GPO that requires us to disable all desktop firewalls inside of our corporate network. Our anti-virus software handles the firewall,

Now we are going to have some workstations that the firewall has to be enable since the Anti-Virus software firewall cant run.

How do I push out a policy to reenable the firewall service policy?

  • Hi,

It will depend on where the GPO disabling the Firewall is located and whether or not Enforced is configured on this GPO and where your computers are located

    Let's take a simple example :

GPO disabling the Firewall (GPOa) linked to the domain with a link order of 1 and computers located in the OU "Windows 7".

    Option 1 :

What you can do is create a group (GroupA) with all computers you want Windows Firewall to be enabled and link the GPO (GPOb) to the OU Windows 7 and filter it with only GroupA.

    Option 2 :

Create a new OU under the OU "Windows 7" called "Exception" for example and link GPOb to it with the default filter Authenticated Users

Parameter to configure the Firewall "Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Windows Firewall with Advanced Security"

    Best Regards,
